With its 1 000 km of coasts, Corsica abounds in bays and creeks which allow you even in august, to avoid the most frequented beaches.
|
Some of its are difficult to access by the road, but can be convenient to the mooring of a sailboat.
The west coast and its multitude of bays (Porto, Sagone, Ajaccio), capes and creeks, is the most pleasant, as far as the coastal navigation is the only way to discover these numerous and often inaccessible creeks from the ground, so as the price of a long walking throught the undergrowth.
The west coast is the best equipped also, from north to south, the harbours of Saint-Florent, l'Île Rousse, Calvi, Ajaccio, Propriano and Bonifacio. Moorings and provisionning all along the coast, in the small harbours of Galeria, Girolata, Cargese, Sagone, Campomoro, and Tizzano. Moorings is still possible out of the harbours, but certain classified zones nature reserve of Girolata, islands of Lavezzi forbid it for duration at 24 o'clock..
The east coast is much more rectilinear and offers immense beaches as coastal ponds. The stages can be made to Porto-Vecchio, Solenzara, Campoloro and Bastia. Small harbours mark out the Cap Corse : Erbalunga, Sisco, Porticciolo, Centuri.
The navy weather in Corsica
The mediterranean weather report is complex thing, and in Corsica even more because, according to places, we observe notorious differences. In summary, and to evoke only summer months, we can say what follows :
In the north west of the island, between Porto (which we observe constitutes a climatic border) and the Cap Corse, strong winds always blow from the west and the southwest. We name its «libeccio». They can raise a redoutable sea.
In the northeast of the island, between the Cap Corse et Bastia, it is necessary to distrust of the opened of valleys by which a libeccio possible can blow in strong squalls falling from the relief.
On all the zone of the Cap Corse, it is necessary to distrust thunderstorms which arise towards it in the middle of august and which sometimes provoke blows of rising wing to force 8-9.
The West Coast of Corsica is characterized by phenomena of thermic breezes from east and west. However, the most we rise to the north of the island, the more the west winds are dominant, with a tendency to blow southwest.
The south of the island is very conditionned by the Bouches de Bonifacio : the resserement between the corsican and sardinian coasts provokes a bottle neck effect, and so a sensitive intensification of the winds which blow there sytematically from west or east. In the Bouches by strong wind, in summer, the breeze strengthens appreciably in the middle of the day to slacken the night. Note also that these winds provoke currents of surface sometimes reaching 2 knots, and susceptible to continue to rage while the wind calmed down.
The east coast, between Porto-Vecchio and Bastia, is generally quiet : well sheltered from the winds of western sector, and little bothered by the strong east winds which make its rare in summer (in case of the arrival of a swell of east, it is urgently necessary to shelter in an harbour). However, the west winds fall in strong squalls from the mountain of Porto-Vecchio : in the same way as between the Cap Corse and Bastia.
